This
beautiful sixteenth century house was built by Sir John Spencer and has
since become famous for being the childhood home of the Princess of Wales.
Althorp
is reputedly haunted by one of its past servants whose responsibility when
he was alive was to make sure candles were not left burning at night.
Since
his death, he has appeared to many visitors who have left their candles
burning while they sleep. He has appeared to sleeping guests, dressed in a
striped shirt and cap and holding a lantern to his face. When they question
what he is doing he usually walks off and disappears through a door.
