The ruins of this fifteenth century manor house can be
found on the banks of the River Windrush in the village of Whitney in
Oxfordshire.
Lord Lovell went into hiding in his own house after
people found out he had supported the impostor Lambert Simnel. Fearing for his
life, he hid himself in a secret chamber and allowed only one old, trusted
servant to look after him. However, the servant suddenly died and as no one
else knew of Lord Lovell's whereabouts, he was left in the chamber to waste
away and die.
To this day his groans and cries for help can be heard
amongst the ruins of the hall.
