The ghost of James Hill, or 'Jack the Painter' as he is more commonly called, is said to haunt the streets of Old Portsmouth in Hampshire.

Jack the Painter attempted to burn down the Portsmouth Dockyard in 1776, and was hanged for his crime. His ghost has been spotted in many locations in Old Portsmouth, dragging heavy chains behind him.
